Tagua Nut Inlay Process
There are a lot of questions about how I process tagua nuts (vegetable ivory) into slices for laser cut tagua inlay so I made a video about how I do it. I’m doing this for inlay into musical instruments (banjos and guitars).
Basically, my tagua nut processing for inlay is to use a bandsaw to cut thin slices (0.070 thick). I hold the irregularly shaped nut by hot-gluing it to a piece of mdf and index by 1/8″ each cut which makes the slices about 0.070 thick.
The process is to use CA glue to install the inlay into the carrier material then sand. My DIY Hardwax Oil is then applied to give a great finish to it.

Very interesting! What laser cutting equipment and program are you using to cut the intricate designs? How think of Tagua will it cut through?
The first link in this article will take you to the post where I talk about the laser, software, settings, and the thickness that I cut.
